Web3 Platform Area ID to Serve as Digital Identity Provider for Story Protocol

On Tuesday, the domain identification service provider Area ID announced a collaboration with blockchain startup Story Protocol to deliver identity management solutions.

According to a press release shared with Cryptonews, Area ID will integrate its domain name infrastructure into Story Protocol.

Human-readable domains such as “jane.ip” will serve as blockchain-verified evidence of creation, enabling IP owners to authenticate, license, and monetize their creations on Story Protocol.

Story Protocol’s Role in Tokenizing Intellectual Property

Established in 2023, Story Protocol utilizes blockchain technology to monitor intellectual property (IP) and has secured over $54 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) Crypto.

Story Protocol functions as a Layer 1 blockchain focused on tokenizing IP—an asset class valued at $61 trillion. Its mainnet was launched on February 13, providing a framework for decentralized collaboration.

The ecosystem of Story Protocol includes platforms such as Aria Protocol, which supports IP tokenization, and Verio Community, where users can stake IP assets for rewards.

Area ID’s Role in Digital Identity

Web3 domains are pivotal to digital identity within the creator economy.

For instance, digital artist Beeple authenticates his work using his Ethereum domain, “beeple..”

Area ID’s new “.ip” domains will offer blockchain-verified evidence of creation, addressing concerns regarding authenticity in AI-generated content.

Proof of Creation in Web3 Identity

Digital identity remains a crucial element of the creator economy.

“In the era of AI, proof of creation is increasingly important. A Web3 domain serves as a unique signature, enabling IP creators to claim ownership of their work and trade it effortlessly, providing assurance to both creators and consumers,” stated Harrison Seletsky, director of business development at Area ID.

“Verifiable identity is essential for the future of intellectual property. With .ip domains powered by SPACE ID, IP holders on Story can establish blockchain-verified proof of creation, simplifying the processes of tokenizing, trading, protecting, and monetizing their work,” remarked Jason Zhao, co-founder and chief protocol officer at PIP Labs, Story’s initial core contributor.

The collaboration between Area ID and Story signifies progress in digital identity and intellectual property management, establishing authenticity within the Web3 space.

As larger institutions pay attention to on-chain IP management, partnerships like that of Area ID and Story Protocol provide a tangible example of how disputes can be minimized and control more clearly defined.

By merging verifiable domains with tokenized assets, content owners may address long-standing issues of misappropriation.

This advancement could lead to more standardized approaches across various sectors, including entertainment, publishing, and beyond.
