Man Sentenced for Kidnapping Family to Extort Stolen Bitcoin Fortune

A court in the U.S. state of Connecticut sentenced 23-year-old Saif Faiq to 48 months in prison and two years of probation for his role in the kidnapping of a couple whose son was suspected of stealing hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin.
In August 2024, the perpetrators hijacked a Lamborghini Urus and abducted two individuals. The victims were the parents of the man suspected of stealing the Bitcoin. The goal of the kidnapping was to force the relatives to hand over a portion of these funds.
In July 2024, a young man had a conflict with the son of the future victims at a nightclub in Miami. For several days leading up to the kidnapping, this young man maintained constant contact with the future kidnappers, providing them with money for transportation and accommodation.
Faiq was responsible for recruiting the perpetrators, according to investigators. According to case materials, he traveled to Connecticut to prepare for the kidnapping and coordinated actions with his brother, Adam Iza, helping him monitor the victims. Iza communicated with the kidnappers via mobile phone and encrypted messaging apps to coordinate their actions, the court established.
In September, Iza received a sentence of 15 years in prison and three years of probation. The other defendants in the case, like him, pleaded guilty.
Faiq has been in custody since November 12, 2025. In June of this year, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery, a charge that carried a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
In the summer, four men were arrested in France who carried out three kidnappings in a single night to extort cryptocurrency. The criminals threatened the hostages with violence if they did not transfer their crypto assets to them.
