Telegram has launched a monetization program for content creators, built on The Open Network blockchain, which allows channel owners to earn Toncoins.

Web3 Reward System for Channel Authors Launched on Telegram

The Telegram team introduced a crypto reward system for content creators, describing it as “one of the most generous in the history of social media.” Users will receive 50% of the revenue generated from advertisements displayed in their Telegram channels.

To participate, public Telegram channels must have at least 1,000 subscribers. Telegram channels collectively generate more than 1 trillion views per month. Rewards are distributed in TON.

The received cryptocurrency can be withdrawn without commission or used within Telegram for various purposes, including:

  • Paying for advertisements on the platform;
  • Purchasing collectible addresses for accounts;
  • Hosting Premium subscription giveaways.

The press release highlights the distinction between Telegram ads and similar features on other social media platforms. Ads do not appear in personal chats, chat lists, or other interface elements; they are displayed exclusively in large public channels. Additionally, the platform does not use personal data for ad targeting.

Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, announced the launch of RevShare, an advertising platform based on The Open Network, in early March 2024. A year earlier, the messenger introduced the ability to create anonymous accounts without a SIM card, with credentials stored on the TON blockchain.
