Uncommon Alien CryptoPunk NFT Achieves Historic Sale of $12.38 Million ETH
The NFT art collection, CryptoPunks, has achieved another record-setting sale with CryptoPunk 635 on the Ethereum blockchain, fetching $12.38 million ETH, as announced in a statement to X on Thursday.
Alien CryptoPunk NFT Achieves Record Price in Latest Landmark Sale
As one of merely nine alien punks, CryptoPunk 635 is an exceptionally rare item. It ranks as the fourth highest-value piece within the entire collection.
Per Thursday’s announcement, the piece was formerly owned by Larva Labs, the parent company of CryptoPunks, and was last sold at Christie’s Contemporary Art Evening Sale in May 2021.
The transaction involving the NFT collection and the new owner of CryptoPunk 635, who has opted to remain anonymous, was facilitated by the high-value NFT broker, Fountain.

“We’re honored to have played a small role in this sale,” stated the NFT project in Thursday’s announcement. “Congratulations to the seller and the new owner!”
A Treasure Minted on the Ethereum Blockchain
Founded in 2017 by Canadian software developers Matt Hall and John Watkinson, CryptoPunks comprises an estimated 10,000 uniquely generated digital images inspired by the cyberpunk genre.
The project’s website notes, “No two are exactly alike, and each one can be trustlessly collected by anyone interacting with the Ethereum blockchain.”
While the majority of the project’s collectibles are represented as humans, a select few limited edition pieces depict zombies, apes, and aliens.
Other digital artworks associated with CryptoPunk 635 sold by the project have reached prices as high as $23.7 million.
Just last month, another anonymous buyer acquired an alien CryptoPunk for $16.03 million, marking the second-highest recorded transaction in the project’s history.
Positive Indicators for the NFT Art World’s Longevity?
In March 2022, CryptoPunks was purchased by Yuga Labs, the parent company of the highly successful NFT collection Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), for an undisclosed sum.
“We’ve long admired CryptoPunks, and the work of the project’s founders, Matt & John,” Yuga Labs stated in a post to X shortly after the announcement. “They’ve advanced NFTs and the broader crypto landscape, and we’re honored to carry the brands they’ve established into the future we’re creating at Yuga.”
Some big news to share today: Yuga has acquired the CryptoPunks and Meebits collections from @LarvaLabs, and the first thing we’re doing is giving full commercial rights to the NFT holders. Just like we did for BAYC and MAYC owners. pic.twitter.com/lAIKKvoEDj

Those who missed the latest sale of the NFT project need not worry: CryptoPunk 5905, a comparable alien punk, is currently available for $15.64 million.
Despite a downward trend in monthly sale prices for NFT art in recent years, the sale of CryptoPunk 635 and others may indicate resilience for NFTs within the art sector.
