A recent study indicates that one in five U.S. adults aged 27 to 42 is involved in cryptocurrency investment. In contrast, individuals over 43 years old tend to be more doubtful about digital assets, favoring investments in real estate and stocks.

The Policygenius research revealed that Generation Z and millennials are the most engaged investors in the U.S., showing a preference for alternative assets like cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Specifically, 20% of U.S. citizens aged 18 to 26 (Gen Z) and 22% of those between 27 and 42 (millennials) possess digital assets. The proportion of among the baby boomer generation (over 59 years) and Generation X (43 to 58 years) is only 5% and 10%, respectively.

24% of millennials and 28% of Generation X invest in real estate, whereas just 13% of Gen Z opt for this asset class. Older millennials are the most inclined to invest in real estate, with 45% of baby boomers participating in this market.

28% of U.S. adults are open to investing in stocks. This asset class is predominantly favored by baby boomers (33%), Generation X (27%), and millennials (27%). Among Americans under 26, only 18% engage in stock investments.

Analysts from Policygenius observed that younger Americans are more inclined to take risks with their savings compared to older generations. Approximately 60% of Gen Z and millennials indicated a willingness to explore various innovative investment methods. Conversely, a third of the older demographic is firmly opposed to trying new approaches in this area.

Interestingly, around 9% of Gen Z and 8% of millennials reported obtaining their financial information from social media. Individuals over 43 years old express skepticism regarding this source for making investment decisions.

Policygenius conducted a survey involving 4,063 U.S. adult respondents from October 16 to October 19, 2023.

In 2022, approximately 13% of the U.S. population held digital assets, with 57% of U.S. millennials selecting cryptocurrency as their initial investment, perceiving crypto-assets as a means for a secure retirement.
