Cryptonews Podcast host Matt Zahab engaged in an in-depth interview with Shant Kevonian, the Founder and CEO of the email platform EtherMail.

Kevonian elaborated on the significance of email as one of the first widely embraced decentralized applications and the necessity for its evolution through Web3 technology.

He highlighted the simplicity and substantial advantages of utilizing Web3 emails, describing these email accounts as an excellent gateway into the Web3 space, and discussed why the term ‘Web3′ may soon become outdated.

Finally, the CEO addressed the launch of the EMT token and its impact on the email experience.

Email: One of the First Decentralized Applications

Email holds such importance today that it is hard to envision society without it.

As per Kevonian, it was indeed one of the earliest widely accepted and standardized decentralized protocols, particularly regarding communication.

“And communication really helps accelerate adoption,” he remarked. Consider the telegraph and the telephone as examples.

These innovations help individuals acclimate to new technologies.

However, there has been a transformation in email usage with the emergence of newer applications.

Professional communication now dominates this domain over personal exchanges. Both individuals and organizations utilize it extensively.

This shift also implies that “email has evolved in such a way that it also has legal jurisdiction.”

For instance, it can be presented in court, as it possesses validity supported by a set of technological assurances.

Our emails are deeply embedded in how we engage with applications, websites, social media, e-commerce platforms, and more. They have become a form of identification.

Consequently, they are not going away. Instead, they require evolution, as argued by Kevonian.

“Since we firmly believe this, we think that with all the new blockchain and Web3 technologies, it’s time to elevate it to the next level,” he stated.

From the perspectives of users and institutions, it is significantly easier to upgrade an existing, familiar protocol than to adopt an entirely new and unfamiliar one.

“You “

‘Web3′ Will Soon Be Just ‘Internet’

Discussing the necessity for Web3-related emails, Kevonian pointed out two primary advantages users receive from the outset: privacy and a reduction in email volume.

For those curious about Web3, it serves as an excellent entry point into this domain. There are no wallets or complex terminology to navigate. All that is required is the creation of an email account.

In contrast, Web2 email presents some fundamental challenges.

Scams, phishing, and general trust issues are immediate concerns. When applied effectively, Web3 technologies can mitigate these issues.

Another aspect to consider is that, while email is widely utilized, “you are the product.”

Google and other companies can access users’ emails, as there is a lack of encryption, and utilize the collected data to enhance ad targeting.

Moreover, because the Web3 ethos centers on privacy and anonymity, this is another area of email communication that this technology can enhance.

It can achieve this through an upgraded protocol via a familiar Web2 email approach.

“So, for us, that’s how we can merge these two realms,” Kevonian explained. “You can enhance the protocol. You can provide privacy, […] the means of communication, [and] all of this in one elegantly packaged solution, which we refer to as EtherMail.”

Importantly, Kevonian mentioned that EtherMail is nearing the point of bridging the two worlds, making Web2 and Web3 indistinguishable.

Additionally, there will be no need to refer to ‘Web3′ anymore – it will simply be ‘the Internet’.

“I believe if we accomplish that, and it is set to be included in one of our upcoming releases, so really keep an eye on that,” the CEO noted.

Furthermore, as more existing companies transition to Web3 and new ones emerge as Web3 entities with EtherMail, all their users will automatically become Web3 users.

Launching a Token is an Arduous Process – But Worth It

The EtherMail team has recently introduced the EMT token.

According to the CEO, “launching a token, if done legitimately, is a very challenging and labor-intensive process.”

Projects must exercise patience throughout this lengthy endeavor, navigate the appropriate regulatory pathways, and collaborate with various stakeholders, including legal advisors, accountants, and governmental bodies.

“And the laws are still evolving,” Kevonian remarked. “So there’s considerable difficulty in determining what is accurate and what is not.”

In addition, a project must establish well-defined and utility. It must address questions such as how to demonstrate utility, whether the product is sustainable, and if there is a demand for it, among others.

“We collaborated with numerous outstanding partners to achieve that,” Kevonian stated.

48 hours ago, we finally launched our $EMT, and we are WOWED by the results so far:

Regarding utility, Kevonian highlighted the prevention of marketing abuse as a key aspect of EMT’s relevance.

To elaborate, in Europe, users consent to receive advertisements from companies they are interested in. However, users can be inundated with excessive emails and irrelevant promotions.

With EtherMail, even though users provide consent, companies would need to reward the user with EMT to engage with those emails.

This upfront payment system discourages them from sending large volumes of irrelevant content.

Thus, it ensures consent and provides fair compensation for the time a user spends interacting with an email.

Consequently, “all parties are in a win-win situation,” Kevonian stated.
