Rise in Adoption of Crypto Cards for Daily Transactions in Europe
In 2025, the demand for new crypto cards in Europe rose by 15%, with nearly half of the transactions being below €10. This pattern indicates a diminishing dependence on cash within the region.
A report from the crypto platform CEX.IO reveals that Europe experienced a significant increase in the adoption of crypto cards during the first half of 2025. Between January and June, the number of new crypto card orders surged by 15%.
Experts highlight that around 45% of transactions conducted with crypto cards involve amounts less than €10 ($11.7). Approximately 40% of these transactions occur online. The average transaction value using crypto cards was €23.70 ($27.7). In comparison, Mastercard’s Q2 2024 report indicated that the average transaction value on bank cards in Europe was €32.89 ($38.5).
Moreover, there is an increase in the utilization of crypto cards for daily expenses, a category that has traditionally been dominated by cash. Data from CEX.IO shows that the leading categories for crypto payments consist of:
- grocery shopping — roughly 30% of payments;
- dining at restaurants and bars — 19%;
- visits to entertainment venues — 16%;
- food delivery — 11%.
The most commonly used digital assets for payments are stablecoins, which represent 73% of all crypto card transactions in the Eurozone. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Solana are also frequently utilized.
Experts suggest that the growing acceptance of crypto cards for everyday purchases may play a crucial role in decreasing European consumers’ reliance on cash. According to the European Central Bank, in 2024, approximately 55% of Eurozone consumers preferred cards and other cashless payment options for in-store transactions, while only 22% opted for cash.
Crypto cards utilizing Mastercard or Visa payment networks have been issued by companies such as MetaMask, Bybit, WhiteBIT, Floki, Avalanche, Mercuryo, SafePal, 1inch, among others.
