Metalayer Introduces $25 Million Cryptocurrency Investment Fund Managed by Ex-Two Sigma Leaders

Metalayer, an investment firm focused on cryptocurrency, has successfully raised $20 million in an initial closing towards its goal of a $25 million crypto venture fund.

A recent report from Fortune indicates that the fund’s initial support has come from institutional investors, including leaders from Two Sigma Ventures.

Metalayer has reportedly received support from family offices and executives involved in blockchain initiatives, in addition to funding from the leadership at Two Sigma Ventures. The fund anticipates securing the remaining $5 million by year-end.

According to the report, the founding team comprises Andy Kangpan, who was previously the digital asset lead at Two Sigma Ventures, and Mickey Graham, who engaged in blockchain projects after his tenure at Two Sigma.

Last week, Metalayer submitted a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to establish its crypto-focused venture fund. The report states that the firm has already made investments in three blockchain-oriented projects.

The investments encompass Ethena, which focuses on yield-generating digital assets; Crossover, a tailored for institutional users; and Clear Token, a platform for blockchain clearinghouse services.

Monkey Tilt has recently secured $30 million in a Series A funding round aimed at expanding its blockchain-based gaming and entertainment platform. The round was spearheaded by Pantera Capital, with additional support from Polychain Capital, PokerGo, Hack VC, and others.

Founded in March 2024, Monkey Tilt merges traditional casino games such as dealer-led craps and roulette with blockchain technology and cryptocurrency payment options. The platform also offers a 24/7 sportsbook and accommodates multi-currency betting.

The company emphasized its payment infrastructure, which enables users to place bets using various digital assets. This feature has established Monkey Tilt as a destination for both experienced gamblers and newcomers interested in blockchain gaming solutions.

Monkey Tilt intends to utilize the new funding for platform improvements and the creation of a gamified product expected to launch in 2025. CEO Sam Kiki characterized the platform as a novel gaming experience, catering to the changing preferences of modern players.
