Floki and Mastercard Introduce Cryptocurrency Debit Card in Europe
The cryptocurrency initiative Floki is set to launch a debit card within the Mastercard payment framework. The Floki Card will be accessible in 31 European nations.
Floki has unveiled a prepaid crypto card that allows users to purchase everyday items and services using digital currencies wherever Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Both virtual and physical variants of the Floki Card will be offered.
This new financial tool will be available in most European countries. Users can fund their Floki Card directly from cryptocurrency wallets, accommodating assets from eight blockchain networks, including BTC, ETH, BNB, TON, SOL, and NOT, along with meme coins DOGS and FLOKI, the HMSTR token from the well-known Hamster Kombat application, and stablecoins such as USDC, USDT, EURT, and XAUT.
The fee for topping up is 2%, while transaction and asset conversion fees are not applicable. There is a one-time fee for card issuance, and the daily spending cap is established at 5,000 USDT.
Floki has warned that Mastercard or the issuing banks may impose limitations on services in certain countries, regions, or for particular merchants at their discretion. Furthermore, some merchants and payment service providers (PSP) may opt not to accept prepaid virtual debit cards.
The Floki project originated as the FLOKI meme coin and has since developed into a more extensive cryptocurrency ecosystem. Its offerings encompass platforms for asset tokenization, staking, decentralized finance, NFT issuance and trading, among other features. The ecosystem is also gearing up to introduce a Metaverse play-to-earn (P2E) initiative.
In March 2024, investment firm Franklin Templeton noted in a communication to investors that, despite their lack of utility, meme coins might present short-term investment opportunities.
