Dogwifhat Dispute: Ethereum NFT Auction Raises Issues with Solana Community
A conflict has arisen within the vibrant realm of meme coins, placing the Solana community in opposition to the caretakers of the real-life Shiba Inu that inspired the viral Dogwifhat (WIF) meme coin.
The issue centers on the auction of an Ethereum NFT showcasing the famous image of Achi, the dog who became synonymous with the well-known Dogwifhat meme.
The situation began when a South Korean Instagram user, asserting ownership of Achi, declared their plan to auction an NFT of the original photo that ignited the meme’s popularity.
This user, who has regularly shared images of Achi dressed in various knitted outfits over the last five years, disclosed their intention to commemorate the dog’s newfound fame.
The NFT auction, taking place on the Ethereum NFT platform Foundation, is scheduled to end on Monday, with the current bid reaching an impressive 50 ETH, which is over $182,000.
Community Pushback Against Decision to Collaborate with Feisty DAO
Nevertheless, the decision to partner with Feisty DAO, an online community skilled in acquiring and fractionalizing Shiba Inu-related NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain, triggered a wave of dissatisfaction among members of the WIF community and other Solana users.
Many voiced their discontent that Achi’s owners did not join forces with the WIF team on Solana for the NFT release.

The backlash intensified to the extent that Achi’s owners felt it necessary to publicly respond to the criticisms.
“Please don’t insult [Achi] and us,” the owners stated in a pinned comment on the Instagram post. “You have no reason to blame us. Please support us.”
Notably, Achi’s owner had previously sought to collaborate with Solana users, but the experience soured.
After the success of WIF, another meme coin named ACHI surfaced with the backing and endorsement of Achi’s parents.
However, the creators of ACHI reportedly abandoned the project shortly after its inception, leaving Achi’s parents feeling disillusioned.
As a result, they opted to partner with Feisty DAO, a reputable entity in the NFT sector, to ensure a more seamless and secure auction process.
Solana Community Made Minimal Effort to Reach Out to WIF Owners
While some members of the WIF community expressed annoyance over the lack of communication between Achi’s parents and the meme coin community, it seems that minimal effort was made by the community to connect with the family behind the dog that elevated their token to a multi-billion dollar valuation.
Despite the remarkable success of WIF, Achi’s parents claimed they had never been contacted by anyone in the WIF community until recently when they attempted to reach out.
Mihir, a member of the WIF community involved in the fundraising initiative to display Achi’s image on the LED screen-covered Sphere arena in Las Vegas, admitted that he was unaware of Achi’s owners until last week.
However, he recognized that they deserved acknowledgment and a share of the profits generated by WIF, which currently has a market capitalization exceeding $3 billion.

Path, the Feisty DAO member managing the NFT auction, expressed willingness to consider re-minting the NFT on Solana if there was interest from the Solana community.
He even reached out to Ansem, a notable member of the WIF community, to assess their interest in acquiring the Achi NFT, but received no affirmative response.
