Craig Wright Withdraws Defamation Appeal in Norway Regarding Satoshi Nakamoto Allegations
Craig Wright, the Australian computer scientist asserting that he is Bitcoin’s creator Satoshi Nakamoto, has withdrawn his appeal in a Norwegian defamation case against the prominent Bitcoiner Hodlonaut (also known as Marcus Granath), as stated in a release on X Thursday.
Marcus Granath Celebrates As Norway Appeal Is Withdrawn
Granath initially encountered legal issues with Wright when he criticized a series of now-removed March 2019 X posts that labeled the alleged Bitcoin inventor as a “fraud,” “mentally ill,” and a “pathetic scammer.”
By that summer, the London-based Wright had initiated a defamation lawsuit against Granath in the U.K. Concurrently, Granath filed a lawsuit in his home country of Norway, asserting that his judgments against Wright were entirely in accordance with the law.
Just got off the phone with my Norwegian lawyer.
CRAIG WRIGHT DROPPED THE APPEAL IN NORWAY!
My win from 2022 is now final and enforceable.
This case started May 19th, 2019 and lasted until today.
I’m very happy!
Now I just need to get the UK case dismissed/won and I can…

In October 2022, a Norwegian court ruled in favor of Granath, partly stating that Wright lacked sufficient evidence to convincingly demonstrate that he was Satoshi Nakamoto.
“Just got off the phone with my Norwegian lawyer,” Granath shared on his X account. “CRAIG WRIGHT DROPPED THE APPEAL IN NORWAY! My win from 2022 is now final and enforceable. This case started May 19th, 2019 and lasted until today. I’m very happy!”
Craig Wright Is Not Satoshi Nakamoto, London High Court Determines
The news regarding Wright’s unsuccessful Norwegian appeal arrives just two months after London’s High Court concluded that the alleged Australian fraudster had misrepresented himself as the inventor of Bitcoin in a case brought by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) contesting his assertions.
Justice Mellor determined that:
1) Dr. Wright is not the author of the Bitcoin White Paper.
2) Dr. Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto.
3) Dr. Wright is not the individual who created the Bitcoin System.
4) Dr. Wright is not the author of the initial versions of the Bitcoin software.

“For over eight years, Dr. Wright and his financial supporters have misrepresented his identity as Satoshi Nakamoto and utilized that falsehood to intimidate and coerce developers within the bitcoin community,” COPA stated on their X account shortly after the ruling. “That ends today with the court’s decision that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto.”
Moreover, a recent linguistic analysis of Satoshi Nakamoto’s writings suggests that the mysterious founding figure of crypto may represent a collective rather than a single individual.
Following the ruling, UK Judge James Mellor froze all of Wright’s assets after he attempted to transfer several shares of his London firm to a Singapore-based entity, possibly in an effort to avoid financial penalties associated with the case.
Despite Granath’s recent success, Wright’s original libel lawsuit against him remains active in the UK. It is uncertain when or if they will reconvene in court for this matter.
