Andrew Tate has secured a $16,000 profit after betting against Kanye West’s meme token YZY, even as the controversial cryptocurrency continues to experience volatility.

According to firm Lookonchain, the former kickboxer and self-styled entrepreneur opened a three-times leveraged short position on YZY at $0.8524. With the token currently trading near $0.77, his position remains profitable.

However, while this specific trade appears successful, Tate’s broader track record in cryptocurrency markets is less impressive. On Hyperliquid, a decentralized perpetuals exchange, he has executed 80 trades to date.

Data from Lookonchain indicates that only 29 of these trades were profitable, resulting in a win rate of just 36.25% and total losses of approximately $699,000.

But he doesn’t seem to be good at perps trading.

Concentrated Holdings Fuel Sharp Rise And Faster Collapse

YZY has mirrored the hype-driven surge and subsequent sharp declines characteristic of many celebrity-linked tokens. The coin reached a of $3 billion within 40 minutes of its launch this week, driven by Ye’s celebrity status and broader speculative interest.

This momentum dissipated quickly, with the token dropping nearly 23% in the past 24 hours to $0.7743, according to CoinGecko. Its market capitalization now stands at approximately $100.3 million.

Underlying these price fluctuations is a high concentration of ownership. Blockchain data reveals that over 94% of the token supply was held by insiders at launch. A single multisignature wallet controlled 87% of the supply before retail investors could meaningfully participate.

These insiders appear to have realized significant gains. One wallet labeled “6MNWV8” spent 450,611 to purchase 1.29 million tokens at $0.35 each. It later sold most of its holdings for 1.39 million USDC and retained holdings still valued at $600,000.

Another whale invested 12,170 SOL, valued at $2.28 million, for 2.67 million tokens and continues to hold an unrealized gain of approximately $6 million.

Hype-Driven Ventures Keep Tate In The Spotlight Despite Losses

Tate’s role as a trader has frequently drawn attention, partly due to his own ventures in memecoins. His Daddy Tate ($DADDY) token launched on Solana, reaching a market cap of $124.57 million by July 2024 before collapsing to $17.79 million a year later. On-chain records later revealed that 11 wallets acquired 20% of the supply just before Tate began promoting it.

He has also associated his name with Andrew Tate’s Dog ($G), another short-lived attempt to capitalize on the memecoin trend. Critics argue that these projects rely more on celebrity hype than on sustainable communities or underlying technology.

Even his leveraged bets have been subject to scrutiny. Tate once claimed a 138.5% profit on a 25x long position in Ethereum, but subsequent revealed substantial net losses.
