The Linea Association, a newly established Swiss non-profit organization, has been initiated by Consensys to foster the advancement, development, and governance of Linea’s technology.

This association is an independent Swiss non-profit entity that will support the Linea community network. Linea, a zkEVM Layer-2 protocol initiated by Consensys, aims to enhance Ethereum’s while maintaining its fundamental principles of security and decentralization.

“Decentralization is fundamental to Linea’s vision. Linea should be owned and governed transparently by everyone as a public asset, similar to Layer 1 Ethereum,” stated Nicolas Liochon, founder of Linea and a board member of the Linea Association.

“The Linea Association will represent an expanding ecosystem of Ethereum technologists, builders, and users with the goal of enabling the world to operate onchain,” Liochon added.

Today we achieve a significant milestone: Announcing the Linea Association, an independent Swiss non-profit focused on promoting the development and governance of our ecosystem. This represents an important advancement towards genuine network decentralization.

Token Launch Anticipated in 2025

Consensys indicated that the new association is dedicated to governance decentralization, with a token generation event scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. The organization aims to introduce the LINEA token next year.

This token will enable holders to participate in decision-making and distribute authority over protocol governance. The association will retain core intellectual property and oversee a treasury.

The association expressed its vision for a thriving ecosystem of Ethereum technologists, builders, and users committed to advancing a decentralized, onchain future.
