Chinese Officials Introduce Blockchain System for Identity Authentication0

The Chinese Ministry of Public Security has revealed the introduction of a blockchain-based Decentralized Identifier (DID) platform. This system will facilitate name verification and safeguard citizens’ personal information, along with providing certification and business authorization. The platform will generate IDs and information vouchers.

The DID platform was created in collaboration with the Blockchain Service Network (BSN), which is fully managed by the State Information Center of China (SICC) and associated with prominent local technology firms such as China Mobile and China UnionPay. The primary aim is to protect the personal data and identity documents of Chinese citizens within the evolving landscape of the global network.

The application will enable Chinese citizens to utilize DID addresses for registering and logging into online platforms without the need to disclose personal information. This will allow users to maintain complete anonymity. Privacy will also be upheld during online transactions between individuals and businesses.

An official launch date for the application has not yet been disclosed.

The announcement from the Ministry of Public Security follows a recent initiative involving the six most popular social networks in China, which mandates that well-known bloggers or opinion leaders display their real names on their profile pages.

Chinese authorities are actively pursuing advancements in new technologies, including the development of central bank digital currencies (), blockchain, NFTs, and Metaverses.
