DTCC Launches Tokenization Service With Citi and JPMorgan

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has introduced a new service aimed at integrating tokenized securities into conventional financial markets. This offering enables eligible participants to transform securities held by The Depository Trust Company (DTC) into tokenized formats and transfer them to digital wallets.
Introduced on Oct. 28, the DTCC Tokenization Service (DTS) maintains the ownership rights, investor safeguards, and economic entitlements associated with the underlying assets. The initiative expands DTCC’s established market infrastructure into the digital sector, leveraging DTC’s custody of over $114 trillion in assets.
Twenty DTC participants have executed agreements to utilize DTS, including prominent financial entities such as Bank of America, BNP Paribas, Citi, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, State Street, and UBS.
Developed with contributions from more than 150 firms, the service is designed to facilitate transactions across both traditional and tokenized markets. DTS currently interfaces with the Canton Network and DTCC’s private Besu network, with further blockchain integrations planned for 2027.
DTCC has also collaborated with wallet providers, application developers, and technology companies to broaden connectivity throughout the digital asset ecosystem.
This launch succeeds a series of regulatory and industry developments. In December 2025, DTC obtained a no-action letter from the US Securities and Exchange Commission, allowing the tokenization of Russell 1000 constituents, ETFs tracking major indices, and US Treasury securities.
Following these developments, DTCC and over 30 firms successfully executed initial limited-production trades and multiple onchain transactions.
