Cheqd Introduces Private and Secure AI Defense System Named ‘Creds’

cheqd, a company focused on creating a trusted data economy where individuals and organizations maintain full ownership and portability of their data, has introduced Creds, a platform designed for the issuance, storage, and exchange of digital credentials to facilitate a transferable reputation.
Creds serves as a platform for issuing digital credentials, or “creds,” providing a portable, reusable, privacy-centric, and secure method for verifying identity, cultivating a decentralized reputation, and fostering trust. The platform was launched today at the Nebular Summit in Paris.
Creds addresses several challenges within Web3, such as privacy concerns, community security, engagement, and trust. It also responds to the trust deficits exacerbated by generative AI.
Community Safety, Portable Trust, and Decentralized Reputation
Security remains a significant challenge in the Web3 space. One study indicated that cryptocurrency scams led to widespread distrust within communities, resulting in losses of approximately $150 million in just one week. With Creds, projects can authenticate user identities and verify the ownership of handles, wallets, and reputations. This functionality helps prevent impersonation, Sybil attacks, and fraud while establishing administrative and moderator roles across platforms like Telegram and Discord. The rise of generative AI has further amplified the spread of misinformation, news, and even fake personas, compounding these issues.
Trust and reputation are essential tools in combating this challenge. Individuals should have the capability to build a verified reputation and transfer it across various groups and platforms. With the privacy feature activated, Creds allows users to share one or multiple credentials for third parties to validate as authentic.
Community Engagement and Gamification
Gamification enhances user engagement and fosters customer acquisition and retention. Businesses that implement gamification tend to see increased profitability compared to those that do not. Creds incorporates a reputation layer into community strategies, enabling projects and individuals to explore gamification elements such as incentive quests and learn-to-earn initiatives, develop unique reputation and trust frameworks, and enhance genuine participation.
“More and more organizations are looking to become community-focused to take advantage of the rising community economy. As an example, it’s preferable to have a smaller number of real active community members, or superfans, than to have a group with thousands of bots,” elaborates Eduardo Hotta, Head of Marketing & Community at cheqd.
Privacy-preserving
Trust and reputation systems have been evaluated with varying degrees of success using Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and SoulBound Tokens (SBTs). Unlike NFTs and SBTs, which are public, Creds are private, revocable, and transferable across platforms and ecosystems, as all personal data is stored off-ledger, ensuring privacy and security. The data is reliable because it has been cryptographically signed and verified by decentralized identifiers (DIDs) on-chain.
Fraser Edwards, CEO and Co-founder of cheqd explains: “Creds offers a privacy-preserving alternative to the surveillance enabling tech of SBTs and NFTs where you have little control over your privacy, as activities and other information are written on the ledger making it public and immutable. Creds are collectable, portable, secure and verifiable; it has all the best things that the NFT and SBT have with the addition of everything else they are missing.”
Launch
Participants at the Nebular Summit received credentials as part of the launch of Creds and its verifiable credentials. Attendees can demonstrate their participation in the event using their credentials without revealing any personally identifiable information. Furthermore, their credentials are collectible and can be kept as a keepsake from the event, similar to an NFT.
Sebastien Couture, Founder of Nebular Summit and Interop Ventures says: “Our goal for Nebular Summit is to showcase the innovative technology emerging from the interchain ecosystem, and offering credentials to all attendees is a really unique and personalized experience to showcase these innovations. We’re excited to build from this first edition and use them to offer future benefits, like early registration to our events throughout the year.”
