U.S CFTC Launches Lawsuit Against Former Voyager Digital CEO0

  • Stephen Ehrlich has categorically refuted the accusations.
  • The former CEO claims he is being made the scapegoat for the actions of others.

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has filed a lawsuit against Stephen Ehrlich, former CEO of Voyager Digital Ltd., bringing the cryptocurrency firm back into the spotlight.

According to a recent report by the CFTC, Ehrlich allegedly violated derivatives laws and misled clients regarding the security of their digital assets. The agency has taken a significant step in enforcing crypto regulations by filing the case in a U.S. federal court in New York.

Violation of Agency Regulations

The CFTC alleges that during Ehrlich’s tenure as CEO, he broke laws designed to promote transparency and honesty in the derivatives market. The lawsuit also claims that Ehrlich and Voyager Digital misrepresented the platform as a “safe haven” for users’ digital assets, thereby enticing unwary investors into a risky situation.

Bloomberg News reported that CFTC investigators had already identified that Ehrlich had violated agency regulations prior to the filing of the complaint. The regulatory body’s commissioners were subsequently discussing whether to pursue enforcement measures against the former CEO.

In response to these accusations, Stephen Ehrlich has categorically denied them. He emphasized that he has never faced issues throughout his long and spotless career in regulated markets at public companies. Ehrlich claims he is being made the scapegoat for the actions of others within several corporations.

The claims against Ehrlich follow the collapse of Voyager Digital in July of last year. The firm failed as a result of the severe market downturn that impacted the cryptocurrency industry.
