Twitter Account of Vitalik Buterin Hacked To Promote Crypto Scam

  • Hackers posted a malicious link in a tweet, indicating a phishing attack.
  • Dmitry Buterin, Vitalik’s father, confirmed the breach.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s official X (formerly Twitter) account was reportedly compromised. Reports indicate that hackers posted a malicious link in a recent tweet, signaling a phishing assault.

Dmitry Buterin, Vitalik’s father, announced on September 9 that his son’s X account had been hacked. The referenced post was subsequently removed. In the tweet, Buterin appeared to express enthusiasm about “Proto-Danksharding coming to Ethereum.” Although the account was reported as hacked, it appears to have been quickly reclaimed.

High-profile Breaches

According to reports, the hackers utilized a phishing link in a tweet claiming that Consensys was distributing a special NFT to celebrate the arrival of “Proto-Danksharding” on Ethereum. The Ethereum co-founder’s X account was compromised, and PeckShieldAlert issued a warning regarding the phishing URL.

The hacking of Buterin’s account is the latest in a series of high-profile breaches affecting the cryptocurrency industry. In July of this year, the X account of Uniswap creator Hayden Adams was also hacked. Buterin’s recent tweets also highlighted that he and Ameen Soleimani co-authored a study on blockchain privacy.
