Christie’s Auction House Collaborates with Gucci to Introduce NFT Series

- Bidding for the auction starts on July 18 and continues until July 25.
- The collection incorporates generative technologies such as algorithms and AI.
Christie’s, a historic auction house with a legacy spanning 256 years, is partnering with the luxury fashion brand Gucci to unveil a series of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The collection, titled “Future Frequencies: Explorations in Generative Art and Fashion,” comprises 21 NFTs created by artists including Claire Silver (AI), Emily Xie (generative art), Botto (decentralized autonomy), among others. The sale will take place on Christie’s 3.0, the auction house’s digital art platform, which will begin accepting bids on July 18 and conclude on July 25.
Leveraging the Gucci Brand
The Bamboo 1947 collection, known for its distinctive bamboo handle featured on Gucci handbags, significantly influences the NFT series. This collection employs generative systems like algorithms and AI to foster greater creativity at the intersection of art, fashion, and technology.
Sebastian Sanchez, Christie’s Manager of Digital Art Sales, noted that this collaboration encourages artists and the fashion industry to explore Web3 technology. Sanchez emphasized that the partnership with Gucci enriches the collection and invites both art lovers and fashion enthusiasts to engage with the common themes present in the works.
Sanchez remarked:
“The Gucci name has such a power, and they have their own audience and a proven record that their audience is probably very different from ours.”
Gucci has been progressively enhancing its digital fashion and art projects. Meanwhile, Christie’s has been a pioneer in the Web3 space since it auctioned artist Beeple’s “EVERYDAYS” NFT.
The Gucci Vault, the brand’s virtual experience platform, was established on property acquired in February 2022 within the metaverse The Sandbox. Earlier this year, the company and Yuga Labs announced their collaboration to bring high fashion to the Otherside.
