Azuki DAO Token Contract Breached by Attacker, Resulting in Theft of 35 ETH

- The contract has been paused, as reported by MetaSleuth, a blockchain intelligence firm.
- The signature variable of the contract was not sufficiently validated.
On Monday, two attackers took advantage of a vulnerability in the Azuki DAO governance token contract, resulting in the theft of 35 ETH. The lack of proper validation for the contract’s signature variable allowed for replay attacks. The contract has since been paused, according to MetaSleuth, a blockchain intelligence firm.
Meanwhile, members of the Azuki DAO are currently voting on whether to hire legal representation to recover 20,000 ETH that was taken during the hack from Zagabond, the creator of the NFT project. To date, 29 million BEAN tokens have been cast in the vote, with 88% of the community in favor of the initiative.
The community also asserted, without further details, that Zagabond is associated with “multiple projects” related to rug pulls. Some users have raised concerns regarding the DAO’s affiliation with the Azuki project, despite the group’s assertion of being “OG Azuki holders” acting in the community’s best interests.
Tytan.ETH, co-founder of NFTY.Finance, expressed doubts about the group’s voting mechanism, noting that the governance token was only a few days old and he was unfamiliar with them.
Identical Collection Chaos
Numerous NFT collectors criticized the new Elementals collection for its resemblance to the Azuki collection released in February 2022, leading to significant backlash against Azuki. Allegations surfaced that the project team transferred 20,000 ETH out of the wallet immediately after the collection was minted, intensifying the controversy.
On June 27, the Azuki Elementals mint was launched, generating considerable excitement within the Web3 community. As the latest installment of the profitable anime-themed PFP project, the 20,000 NFTs of Elementals were mined and sold out almost instantly.
