ZachXBT Claims 300 Bitcoin Contribution to Ross Ulbricht Associated with ‘Dubious Source’
Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road, received a contribution of 300 Bitcoin, valued at over $31 million, to his official donation wallet on Sunday.
This transaction, identified by blockchain analysts and monitored by platforms like Lookonchain and Arkham Intelligence, has ignited a flurry of speculation within the cryptocurrency community.
The funds seem to have been processed through Jambler, a centralized Bitcoin mixing service, instead of more commonly utilized decentralized privacy solutions such as Wasabi or Samourai.
Blockchain investigator ZachXBT pointed out that two inactive addresses, which were active as early as 2014 and 2019, transferred substantial amounts into Jambler between April and May. These transfers align with the donation to Ulbricht’s wallet, raising questions about theories suggesting that the contribution was a self-transfer from concealed pre-arrest assets.
Update: Few entities regularly utilize Jambler in significant amounts, so I discovered a potential demix for the donation. 1Mp5hH originates from late 2014 exchange activity. 1CNDW has 2019 exchange activity and was previously flagged in compliance tools.

ZachXBT Connects Ross Ulbricht Donation to Flagged Bitcoin Address
ZachXBT indicated that the donation was likely not a self-transfer as some had theorized, although it seems to have come from a “questionable source.”
The unusually large amount of the donation, along with its unclear origin, has raised concerns.
One of the addresses associated with the transaction, 1CNDW, had previously been flagged in compliance tools, which adds to the apprehension.
Ulbricht Reflects on Prison and Freedom
Ulbricht was released in January 2025 after serving 12 years of a double life sentence. His release followed a contentious pardon granted by US President Donald Trump.
Since then, Ulbricht has re-engaged with public life, speaking at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Nashville and auctioning personal memorabilia, including art and belongings from his time in prison.
The donation arrived shortly after the conclusion of Ulbricht’s auction, which had garnered over $1.3 million in Bitcoin. However, despite the timing, the 300 BTC transfer was not linked to the auction. This separation has only intensified the enigma surrounding its source.
The donation wallet, overseen by the FreeRoss.org campaign, supports legal advocacy and public education regarding sentencing reform. While the funds significantly aid these initiatives, the unclear trajectory, particularly through a centralized mixer, has overshadowed what could have been a moment of celebration.
Meanwhile, Ulbricht spoke to a large audience in Nashville, reflecting on the profound changes in his life and recalling instances when he feared for his life in that “awful cage.” Nevertheless, he expressed that he sought to find joy, even during the bleakest periods.
