William Shatner Forecasts the Future of Cryptocurrency by the Time of the Star Trek Era (Consensus 2023 LIVE)
William Shatner – the renowned actor known for his role as Captain Kirk in Star Trek – made an appearance at Consensus 2023 on Thursday to unveil an NFT initiative, following the success of his previous collection from three years ago.
The 92-year-old discussed his enthusiasm for Web 3 in the entertainment sector and shared his vision for the future of cryptocurrency as humanity approaches the Star Trek timeline.

Shatner recounted that his initial encounter with NFTs occurred in 2020 when 125,000 trading cards featuring him sold out instantly on the Wax blockchain. Among the NFTs was an X-ray image of his tooth.
He was subsequently approached by the Web 3 gaming firm Orange Comet to introduce his new collection titled “Infinite Connections,” which consists of 2,500 three-dimensional representations of Shatner, embodying his belief that “everything is connected.”
“I know nothing about how to program… but what I do understand is emotions, and drama, and beautiful things,” he stated. “That kind of area is my expertise.”
Shatner later discovered that NFTs can be “malleable” and “creative,” and ultimately developed an interest in Web 3 due to the rapid evolution of the technology.

Crypto in the Distant Future
When queried about whether Captain Kirk would embrace cryptocurrency, Shatner indicated that crypto will be “way, so high,” by the time the events of his universe unfold.
“It’ll be so many thousands of dollars in value – the crypto coins” – that I would think that the people today who are going to live two or three hundred years are going to buy crypto now before it explodes!” he expressed.
Ultimately, however, Shatner dismissed some prevalent notions among crypto “doomsayers” regarding the collapse of fiat currency, asserting that the United States will prosper in a crypto-centric future.
Shatner himself does not engage in crypto investments but acknowledges its potential value to others. “If enough people think it’s something, then it is,” he concluded.
