UN Establishes DAO for Government Sector0

Rooted in the Dynamic Coalition on Blockchain Assurance and Standardization (DC-BAS), established by a United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF), a pilot initiative has been launched to assess the advantages of blockchain by showcasing the capabilities of DAO structures within the public sector.

Through this initiative, the IGF seeks to illustrate how public institutions can adopt DAO principles to develop transparent, secure, and well-defined governance frameworks. IGF representatives did not clarify whether the organization would implement the DAO in its operations, indicating only that the pilot will concentrate on investigating the non-financial dimensions of decentralized organizations.

Support for the infrastructure will be supplied by the Government Blockchain Association (GBA), a non-profit public entity. The DAO will utilize GOSH, a solution on Ethereum developed by the GBA.

Dino Cataldo Dell’Accio, GBA Leader and Chief Information Officer at the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF), stated that the initiative will showcase the potential of blockchain to enhance public sector organizations. He believes that the DAO pilot project represents a significant advancement towards adopting innovative and secure governance models for public sector entities.

DAO technologies are increasingly being utilized in education, scientific research, and the music industry. Analysts from the World Economic Forum (WEF) are also examining decentralized organizations and have published a guide regarding their operations.
