U.S. Officials Announce $15 Million Reward in Connection with Ex-Olympian Ryan Wedding’s Cryptocurrency-Related Trafficking Investigation
Former Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding is confronting criminal charges for allegedly orchestrating an international drug trafficking operation linked to cryptocurrency, as revealed in recent indictments released this week by the Justice Department.
U.S. Authorities Increase Reward in Disturbing Olympian Case
As stated in a press release from the DOJ dated November 19, Wedding is accused of managing the criminal organization and is implicated in the January 2025 murder of a federal witness connected to the prosecution’s case against the former Canadian athlete.

The U.S. government asserts that Wedding “placed a bounty” on the federal witness, leading to his murder at a restaurant in Colombia earlier this year.
“Regardless of whether you are a kingpin or a street dealer, anyone who sells drugs to our youth will face arrest and prosecution,” stated Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “Ryan Wedding oversees one of the most extensive and violent drug trafficking organizations globally and collaborates closely with the Sinaloa Cartel.”
“We will not cease our efforts until his name is removed from the FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted List, and his narcotics trafficking organization is dismantled,” she continued.
Ryan Wedding’s Cryptocurrency Involvement
The U.S. government contends that Wedding utilized a “sophisticated” Tether network to launder funds illicitly acquired through his vast drug operation before ultimately transferring them into one he managed.
In one instance detailed in the indictment, a defendant “received approximately $2,000,000,000 COP” converted from cryptocurrency “as payment for the roughly 300 kilograms of cocaine.”
Additionally, U.S. authorities have raised Wedding’s reward from $10 million to $15 million for information that leads to his arrest or prosecution.
If found guilty, Wedding faces a potential maximum sentence of life imprisonment for his offenses.
