TON Blockchain Resumes Operations After Second Disruption

The TON blockchain network has resumed its functions after experiencing its second outage within a span of two days.

The TON Community shared this update on its Telegram channel early Thursday morning, Hong Kong time, indicating that TON-based asset withdrawals and deposits through Wallet would soon be processed.

The most recent disruption, which lasted over four hours, was linked to a “heavy load caused by DOGS token minting.”

TON Experiences Two Outages in Two Days

This latest outage follows a similar incident on Tuesday afternoon, U.S. time, which was resolved shortly after midnight.

Both outages were associated with the minting of the DOGS token, initially noted by observers and subsequently confirmed by the TON network.

Despite these interruptions, Toncoin, the native token of the TON protocol, experienced an 8% rise in value following the announcement, as reported by CoinDesk Indices.

Nonetheless, it remains below its prior levels before the detention of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov.

While Telegram and TON operate as legally distinct entities, their close connection has garnered attention, especially after Durov’s recent arrest in France.

He faces accusations related to facilitating illegal transactions, child exploitation, and non-compliance with authorities, among other charges.

DOGS Token Causes TON Network Outage

The introduction of the DOGS token resulted in considerable congestion on the TON blockchain, leading to an unanticipated network outage.

The high demand for the airdropped DOGS tokens triggered a significant increase in on-chain activity, putting pressure on the network’s capacity.

On Tuesday night, the official TON blockchain account on X reported a disruption in block production due to “abnormal load,” mentioning that around 20 million transactions had been processed in the previous 48 hours.

Launched in July 2024, DOGS is marketed as the “most Telegram-native memecoin,” inspired by Spotty, a mascot popularized by Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov.

The DOGS token has rapidly attracted a large following, with its official Telegram channel, Dogs Community, gaining nearly 17 million subscribers.

Moreover, the DOGS Community’s official account on X has gathered 3.9 million followers since its launch in July, placing it alongside major entities like Pi Network and Ethereum in terms of social media presence.

Durov Released on €5 Million Bail

In the meantime, French authorities have granted Durov bail under strict conditions, which include a payment of 5 million euros, reporting to police twice a week, and remaining within the borders of France.

Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau indicated that the judge found adequate grounds to formally investigate Durov on all charges for which he was initially detained.

These charges encompass suspected involvement in operating an online platform that facilitates illegal transactions, distribution of child sexual abuse material, drug trafficking, fraud, non-compliance with authorities, money laundering, and providing cryptographic services to criminals.

However, a video shared by the Russian state news agency RIA on Telegram, and later on X, appears to show Durov, dressed in black, wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses, leaving the prosecutor’s office and entering a vehicle on Wednesday evening.
