Tokenized Assets Market Projected to Attain a Minimum of $1.3 Trillion by 2030
Experts anticipate significant growth in the market for tokenized real-world assets (RWA). Nonetheless, projections vary considerably, with the most optimistic estimates indicating that the RWA market could surpass $30 trillion by 2034.
As per analysts from Standard Chartered Bank and Synpulse, the market for tokenized assets may achieve a value of $30.1 trillion by 2034. They project that 16% of the overall market volume will consist of trade finance assets. The report further indicates that at the start of 2024, the size of the RWA market, excluding stablecoins, will be approximately $5 billion.
However, the forecast from Wall Street analysts appears excessively optimistic. Jamie Coutts, an analyst at Real Vision, has voiced this perspective. He estimates that the RWA market could reach around $1.3 trillion by 2030. This projection is grounded in the current two-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 121%. Nevertheless, even this level of growth, according to the analyst, will have a considerable effect on the advancement of other sectors within the Web3 industry.
Additionally, he posits that the Ethereum ecosystem, especially the Layer 2 (L2) protocols, will gain the most from the growth of the RWA market. They could secure between 95% and 99% of the total accumulated value through tokenized asset placements. This scenario may heighten competition between the Ethereum mainnet and L2 solutions within its ecosystem.
Analysts at McKinsey & Company also adopt a more conservative outlook regarding the future of the tokenized assets market. They project that its volume could fall between $2 trillion and $4 trillion by 2030, influenced by various factors. They emphasize that the active development of the industry will necessitate use cases that provide market participants with advantages over conventional financial systems. The issuance of tokenized bonds is highlighted as an example of such a situation.
In 2024, the market for tokenized U.S. Treasury bonds surpassed $1 billion for the first time, with analysts forecasting that it could expand to $3 billion by the year’s end. Other tokenization applications are also emerging. For instance, Chainlink is developing new scenarios for utilizing tokenized real estate. Another illustration of RWA application can be observed in Diamond Standard, a company that employs tokenization for real assets in the diamond sector.
