Tigran Gambaryan No Longer in Nigeria After Announcement of Charges Dismissed: CoinDesk
Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan has been officially released from custody by the Nigerian authorities and has departed the West African country after nearly eight months in Kuje prison, as reported by CoinDesk on Thursday.
Tigran Gambaryan of Binance Has Departed Kuje Prison
A family representative who communicated with the crypto news outlet indicated that Gambaryan was officially permitted to exit the Abuja prison facility on the evening of October 23 and has since left the nation entirely.

An attorney representing the Binance compliance chief further informed the outlet that Gambaryan is “in the air,” although it is not immediately known where he is headed.
“We are extremely relieved and thankful that Tigran Gambaryan has at last been released after enduring nearly eight months of detention in Nigeria,” Binance CEO Richard Teng stated on Thursday morning. “Throughout this challenging time, Tigran has demonstrated remarkable strength, and we applaud his resilience in the face of such significant hardship. We are profoundly grateful to everyone who invested countless hours to facilitate Tigran’s release.”
Binance Continues to Face Allegations from Nigerian Authorities
Gambaryan, who was initially apprehended by officials after visiting the African nation for discussions on digital asset policy in February, has experienced various health complications since his abrupt incarceration.
During a visit to Gambaryan in Nigeria this past June, U.S. lawmakers French Hill (R-AR) and Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) discovered that he had been suffering from both malaria and double pneumonia while losing a considerable amount of weight.
Additionally, footage from a court hearing in September 2024 shows Gambaryan visibly in distress and struggling to walk due to a herniated disc after allegedly being denied access to a wheelchair.
The health issues faced by the Binance employee, along with his lack of decision-making authority at the crypto exchange, were reportedly significant factors in the Nigerian government’s choice to dismiss the charges against him.
“Fantastic to see the Nigerian government drop the charges against Tigran Gambaryan,” Hill remarked. “It’s well past time he return home safely to America and his family and immediately receive any necessary medical treatment that he needs.”
“It is a tremendous relief that this day has finally arrived,” his wife, Yuki Gambaryan, stated in a release. “The past eight months have been a nightmare.”
Although Nigeria has since dropped the charges against Gambaryan, Binance itself continues to confront allegations of money laundering and tax evasion.
