Congressman Wiley Nickel (D-NC) and The Digital Chamber organized a Bitcoin roundtable on Wednesday, concentrating on policy matters concerning national security, financial inclusion, privacy, and sustainability within the cryptocurrency industry.

The Digital Chamber Launches Bitcoin Roundtable Discussion

Cody Carbone, President of The Digital Chamber, highlighted the organization’s ongoing partnership with political figures to develop balanced and effective regulations in the digital asset arena.

“By working with lawmakers from both parties, we strive to ensure that Bitcoin and other digital assets are integral to building a more equitable, sustainable economy for all,” Carbone remarked.

The Digital Chamber characterized the roundtable as a “fruitful discussion” in a Thursday X post, underscoring Bitcoin’s relevance to national security, financial inclusion, privacy, and sustainability.

The post also reiterated the group’s dedication to promoting ongoing dialogue to bolster innovation and community empowerment.

Wiley Nickel Advances Digital Asset Advocacy Efforts

Nickel, who co-hosted the gathering, has been a staunch advocate for the digital asset sector for several years.

In May, the North Carolina congressman proposed a resolution with Representative Mike Flood (R-NE) aimed at reversing the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) contentious staff accounting bulletin, SAB 121.

“We’re not giving this issue to Trump. We want to encourage innovation and protect consumers, but allowing crypto to become a political football is only going to set the U.S. further behind.”

Nickel’s advocacy efforts have continued alongside notable Democratic leaders. He recently participated with Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) at Crypto For Harris’ inaugural town hall event, conducted via livestream last month.

During the town hall, Nickel differentiated the viewpoints of political leaders regarding cryptocurrency. “There’s only one person who’s running for president who has labeled crypto a scam, and that’s Donald Trump,” Nickel stated.

Despite Trump’s previous position, the Republican nominee has since shown considerable support for digital assets during his campaign, declaring at Bitcoin Conference 2024 in Nashville, “We will implement regulations, but they will be crafted by those who support the industry, not by its detractors.”

Nickel concluded by cautioning that politicizing cryptocurrency could impede U.S. advancement in the sector.

“We’re not giving this issue to Trump,” he asserted. “We want to encourage innovation and protect consumers, but allowing crypto to become a political football is only going to set the U.S. further behind.”
