Tether Introduces Synthetic Stablecoin Named Alloy
Tether has introduced Alloy (aUSDT), a new stablecoin that is backed by the Tether Gold token (XAUt) and pegged to the U.S. dollar.
Tether has revealed the launch of a stablecoin that is gold-backed and pegged to the U.S. dollar. This new token, named Alloy (aUSDT), will be available for minting on the Alloy by Tether platform.
As stated by the company, the Alloy stablecoin will be overcollateralized by the Tether Gold token (XAUt), which grants ownership of physical gold. aUSDT will maintain a peg to the U.S. dollar. Therefore, this new token can be viewed as a synthetic dollar that mirrors the value and utility of the dollar without being directly supported by fiat currency.
Synthetic assets in the cryptocurrency sector are defined as tokens that replicate the price of another asset through various stabilization methods, algorithms, and smart contracts. They utilize digital assets that are not directly tied to the underlying asset as financial collateral.
The Alloy by Tether platform will enable long-term holders to retain exposure to gold while providing a dollar-referenced asset for daily transactions. In the future, the platform will also feature other stablecoin-based assets, including yield-generating financial products. Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, mentioned that Alloy by Tether will be part of the real-world asset (RWA) tokenization platform set to launch later this year.
Users will be able to mint aUSDT through smart contracts and price oracles by depositing XAUt tokens. The Alloy smart contract operates on the Ethereum blockchain. This new asset is developed and overseen by Moon Gold and Moon Gold El Salvador, subsidiaries of Tether licensed by the National Commission for Digital Assets of El Salvador (CNAD).
Tether is actively pursuing various cryptocurrency initiatives, including the establishment of the Tether Edu educational division and the expansion of its mining operations. Additionally, the company is enhancing the use of its stablecoins as payment methods and is consistently minting new coins.
