Telegram Creator Pavel Durov Detained in France, Elon Musk Demonstrates Opposition
Billionaire Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov was detained on Saturday at Bourget airport near Paris, according to local news sources. Durov was arriving from Azerbaijan aboard his private jet when he was apprehended by local law enforcement.
The inquiry into Durov pertains to the absence of moderators on Telegram, with authorities believing that this has allowed criminal activities to continue unabated on the messaging service.
Earlier this year, Durov disclosed in an interview with Tucker Carlson the ongoing challenges he has encountered from governments worldwide, particularly from Russia and the USA.
The prominent messaging service is known for its robust encryption, as Durov has consistently declined government requests for a backdoor key for investigative purposes.
