Telegram Chatbot Unibot Suffers $640,000 Loss in Digital Assets Due to Hacker Breach

The Telegram chatbot Unibot has experienced a loss of approximately $640,000 in digital assets following a breach that exploited a weakness in the recently launched contract. The development team for the protocol stated that they are actively investigating the matter and will provide a comprehensive response shortly.

According to PeckShield, the hacker transferred the stolen cryptocurrency to Uniswap, which was then routed to the contentious crypto mixer, Tornado Cash.

  • Lookonchain recommended that Unibot transfer funds to alternative wallets or revoke contract approvals as soon as possible.
  • Unibot acknowledged the token approval exploit from its new router and indicated that it has paused the router to mitigate the issue.
  • The protocol also reassured its users that any funds lost due to the vulnerability in its new router will be reimbursed, while emphasizing that user keys and wallets remain secure.
  • According to blockchain security firm CertiK, nearly $332 million in various digital assets were lost to exploits, hacks, and scams in September.
  • This latest exploit follows a similar incident that affected Maestrobots, a collection of cryptocurrency bots on the Telegram messenger app, on October 24th.
  • The attackers focused on MaestroRouter on the mainnet, draining 280 ETH valued at approximately $485,000 at the time of the breach.
  • The team promptly identified the attack and eliminated the exploit, with users being reimbursed the following day.
