Soccer Icon Ronaldinho Under Investigation for Involvement in Cryptocurrency Fraud (Report)
![]()
The Brazilian government has reportedly initiated an inquiry into one of the most renowned soccer players in history – Ronaldo de Assis Moreira (commonly known as Ronaldinho) – concerning allegations of his involvement in a cryptocurrency fraud.
The player was called to testify regarding the issue but did not appear in court, providing no justification for his absence.
Expected to Appear in Court Next Week
Recent reports indicate that the former player for FC Barcelona, AC Milan, and Brazil’s national team is under suspicion for being involved in a scam linked to a questionable firm named “18kRonaldinho.” This scheme promised enticing yet fraudulent returns of 2% daily to individuals who invested a minimum of $30 in digital currencies. Ronaldinho served as an ambassador for the entity during its initial phase, which was focused on selling watches and jewelry.
The 2005 Ballon d’Or recipient did not attend court to clarify his possible involvement with the company. Notably, he would have had the option to remain silent before the judges even if he had shown up.

Áureo Lídio Moreira Ribeiro – a federal deputy from Rio de Janeiro – stated that authorities have summoned Ronaldinho to appear in the specified court on August 30. He cautioned that should there be another absence, law enforcement might resort to “the use of force” to bring him in.
The athlete’s legal representatives asserted that their client is, in fact, a victim of the scam, alleging that wrongdoers have exploited his image and name unlawfully to deceive others.
Investors who suffered losses and uncovered the situation are seeking the recovery of 300 million reais (approximately $61 million) for the moral and material damages incurred due to the alleged scam.
Ronaldinho Already Engaged in the Crypto Space
As the aforementioned case continues to develop, it is noteworthy that the Brazilian entered the cryptocurrency ecosystem legally over a year ago.
In February of the previous year, he formed a partnership with Graph Blockchain’s subsidiary New World Inc. to become an ambassador for the organization and introduce NFT experiences to his extensive fan base. Ronaldinho, recognized for his cheerful demeanor while playing soccer and his respectful conduct towards opponents, boasts a large following, with nearly 75 million followers on Instagram.
A few months later, the athlete signed another agreement, collaborating with the decentralized exchange P00LS to launch his own token named RON.
