Shift4 Expands Worldwide Cryptocurrency Payment Options for Retail Industry
Payment provider Shift4 has enabled merchants globally to accept cryptocurrencies for e-commerce and through POS terminals. The implementation of the Pay with Crypto solution will occur in stages.
Shift4, a prominent player in integrated payments and commerce technology, has introduced Pay with Crypto, a feature that allows merchants to accept cryptocurrency at POS and online.
Shift4 is a U.S.-based firm that focuses on integrated payment processing and merchant management solutions. The company caters to over 200,000 businesses globally, including restaurants, hotels, stadiums, and amusement parks, offering them secure and convenient transaction solutions. Shift4 handles more than 5 billion transactions worth over $260 billion each year.
As stated by Jared Isaacman, CEO of Shift4, this initiative aims to not only facilitate a new era of commerce driven by the increasing acceptance of crypto payments but also to position the company as a frontrunner in integrated payments.
Alex Wilson, Head of Crypto at Shift4, emphasized that the Pay with Crypto feature is very user-friendly, likening it to credit and debit card transactions. He also mentioned that merchants need not concern themselves with the technical details of managing digital assets or establishing crypto wallets, as they do not need to engage directly with cryptocurrencies.
Payments made in cryptocurrency are automatically converted to U.S. dollars and deposited into merchants’ accounts. Supported cryptocurrencies include BTC, ETH, SOL, USDC, and other stablecoins. The feature will be introduced in phases across Shift4’s diverse products and services. To create this new offering, Shift4 integrated its global payment capabilities with the development of Mesh, which will ensure secure communication between wallets and exchanges during the cryptocurrency conversion process.
Max Krupyshev, CEO of CryptoProcessing.com, remarked that contemporary payment services enable merchants to accept crypto without direct interaction. He also highlighted that through automatic conversion, clients processing crypto can receive a fixed amount in fiat to their accounts, alleviating concerns about exchange rate fluctuations.
In 2022, Shift4 acquired The Giving Block, a platform dedicated to cryptocurrency donations for non-profit organizations. For further insights on crypto payments for charity, refer to a dedicated article by CP Media.
