On-chain analytics indicate that in the last month, the tokenized real-world assets (RWA) sector expanded by nearly 60%, achieving a market capitalization of $8.86 billion. In contrast, Bitcoin and Ethereum experienced price increases of just 14.2% and 26.3%, respectively, during the same timeframe.

Data from Artemis Terminal reveals that the RWA sector led the in growth rate throughout May. As of 14:00 (GMT+3) on May 10, the sector experienced a growth of 59.2% over the preceding 30 days. CoinGecko data corroborates that the market capitalization of the tokenized real-world assets sector surpassed $8.8 billion.

The expansion of the RWA ecosystem is fueled by the active advancement of three tokenization protocols:

  • Ondo — capitalization rose by 59.72% over the month, exceeding $12.5 billion;
  • Clearpool — capitalization reached $215 million, with a monthly increase of 58.84%;
  • Maple — the project’s capitalization grew by 30.12% over the month, totaling $168 million.

The progress of these protocols is closely linked to the recent launch of several notable tokenization projects and increasing optimism regarding the sector’s long-term potential. Significant events in the sector include:

  1. Galaxy Digital tokenized a Stradivarius violin valued at $9 million. The violin’s owner, Animoca Brands Co-Founder Yat Siu, intends to use the asset as collateral for a multi-million-dollar loan.
  2. Watford F.C. offered approximately 10% of its shares for sale, tokenized on the Republic platform.
  3. The U.S. House Financial Services Committee conducted a hearing on RWAs, where officials deliberated on the necessity for additional regulations to facilitate tokenization.

It is important to highlight that the growth of the RWA sector last month significantly exceeded that of Ethereum and Bitcoin, which recorded price increases of 26.3% and 14.2%, respectively. The sectors that performed the worst were AI and DePIN, with declines of 23.5% and 19.2%, respectively, over the past 30 days.

In summary, the total value locked (TVL) in the RWA sector increased by 60% over the past year, drawing the interest of major traditional finance participants. Recently, Standard Chartered successfully completed pilot trials for asset tokenization, and Deutsche Bank began establishing standards for RWA protocols.
