A resident of Pechora in the Komi Republic has lost over 3.5 million rubles while attempting to profit from cryptocurrency investments, as reported by the regional branch of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

A man born in 1963 approached the duty unit of the OMVD “Pechorsky.” He explained that he was searching online for additional income and responded to an advertisement, providing his personal information and contact details.

Subsequently, he was contacted by an unknown individual who claimed to be an employee of a brokerage firm. This person encouraged him to invest in cryptocurrency and persuaded him to install a trading application and an electronic wallet via the links provided.

Initially, the victim transferred small amounts—starting from 5,000 rubles. The application displayed an increase in his investments, leading him to send larger sums. In addition to his personal funds, the man took out loans and borrowed money from acquaintances.

When he attempted to withdraw his funds, he was denied and was asked to deposit additional money. Realizing he had fallen victim to a scam, the man reported the incident to the police.

Law enforcement agencies have initiated a criminal case based on the signs of a crime as defined in part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed on a particularly large scale).

Previously, in the Krasnoyarsk region, a 26-year-old deputy director of a store transferred 9.3 million rubles to fraudsters, hoping to profit from cryptocurrency transactions.
