The FSB of Russia in the Sverdlovsk region, in collaboration with energy specialists from the “Rosseti Ural” branch, uncovered a mining farm consisting of over 850 devices in an abandoned facility near the city of Asbest.
According to the energy officials, the owner of the premises tampered with the meters and consumed electricity without proper accounting. The violation was detected during an inspection involving law enforcement and the security service of the company.
The facility housed more than 850 units of mining equipment. The energy officials prepared a report on the unaccounted electricity consumption, which exceeded 2.9 million kWh. The damage, as assessed by experts, surpassed 10 million rubles. All equipment was confiscated by the authorities.
A criminal case has been initiated against the alleged owner under Article 165 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Causing property damage through deception or abuse of trust”). He faces a potential sentence of up to five years in prison.
Previously, Nikolai Shulginov, the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy, stated that according to the electric grid holding “Rosseti,” the damage from illegal mining in Russia exceeded 4.7 billion rubles in 2025.
