The announcement mentioned that there are plans to eventually make Ripple’s solution available for wider use, including facilitating international payments for both corporate and retail clients. This expansion would offer businesses a more effective means of managing cross-border transfers.
Ripple’s Regional Focus in Latin America
Brazil’s growing interest in digital payments and blockchain technology positions it as a significant market for Ripple, which established its first office in the country in 2019. Since that time, Ripple has concentrated on developing infrastructure to support digital asset transactions in the region.
“The goal is to provide a streamlined transfer through the expertise of Ripple, our international partner specializing in cross-border payments,” stated Mercado Bitcoin Head of Banking Jordan Abud.
“The ability to facilitate this type of operation, offering reduced costs and enhancing the platform’s capabilities demonstrates our commitment to customers, while broadening the range of products we currently provide,” Abud added.
The announcement clarified that the product is not yet accessible to the general public. The initial phase is focused exclusively on institutional operations between Mercado Bitcoin and its branch in Portugal.
