The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) has unveiled a new collaborative initiative with Ripple Labs. Representatives from both the bank and the company will investigate avenues to digitize the Georgian economy.

Natia Turnava, First Vice-Governor and Acting Governor of the NBG, along with Varlam Ebanoidze, Head of the Financial and Supervisory Technology Development Department, engaged in discussions regarding various aspects of financial technology advancement in the country with James Wallis, VP of Central Bank Engagements at Ripple. Alistair Brown, Vice President and Global Head of Open Banking & Payments at EPAM, Ripple’s collaborator in developing software for digital platforms and products, also participated in the conversation.

Ripple’s partnership with the National Bank of Georgia builds upon a prior collaboration where the company served as the official technology partner for the digital GEL pilot project. Georgia is not the sole nation where Ripple is engaged in CBDC development initiatives; the company is also involved in pilot projects in Bhutan, Palau, Montenegro, and several other regions.
