Restaking Sector in DeFi Ecosystem Experienced Notable Expansion0

The EigenLayer restaking protocol, which operates on Ethereum, has climbed to fourth place in terms of total value locked (TVL), reaching $7.01 billion, according to DefiLlama. Since early February, the protocol’s TVL has surged by nearly $5 billion, elevating the restaking sector to the sixth position regarding funds among all DeFi protocol categories.

EigenLayer witnessed its most significant growth period from February 5 to 9, coinciding with a temporary suspension of restrictions on the volume of staked assets by the project team. Consequently, the TVL increased by 181% during this timeframe. Although a new limit on asset volume for staking was implemented on February 9, the project team plans to fully remove this restriction in the future.

Restaking protocols facilitate the reinvestment of LST tokens obtained from initial crypto staking, such as stETH, rETH6, sfrxETH, mETH, and LsETH. This strategy results in enhanced overall staking returns and improves the liquidity of LST tokens.

Liquid staking protocols (LSTfi) currently have a TVL of $42.5 billion, making them the leading category of DeFi projects. LSTfi protocols are expected to play a dominant role in the DeFi ecosystem in 2023, especially following the successful transition of the Ethereum blockchain network to the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism.
