In a notable advancement aimed at enhancing fan interaction, the Chiliz chain and Socios have teamed up with Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur to introduce the SPURS Fan Token.

According to Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of Chiliz, this recent initiative establishes Tottenham as the seventh Premier League club to enter the expanding global sports ecosystem, demonstrating a commitment to innovation and adaptability amid fluctuating market conditions.

Spurs Token to Transform Fan Interaction

The SPURS Fan Token, featuring a variety of new functionalities, is integrated with Tottenham’s digital loyalty program.

Reports indicate that the Chiliz and Socios ecosystem has generated over $400 million in revenue for the global sports sector since its inception, facilitating increased fan engagement and interaction.

The announcement emphasizes that the introduction of a Fan Token signifies a major evolution in digital fan engagement for Tottenham.

Ryan Norys, the Commercial Sales Director at Tottenham Hotspur, stated:

“We’re excited to provide fans around the world with a new range of club-related rewards and experiences. Our Fan Token will enhance the numerous advantages of our current membership program. This collaboration illustrates how the Club is striving to create additional recurring revenue streams to reinvest in our football initiatives.”

The announcement specifies that starting Wednesday, Oct. 4, all season ticket holders aged 18 and older will receive complimentary, non-transferable Spurs Fan Tokens. These tokens will grant access to club polls, predictors, quizzes, and competitions on Socios.com, where fans can accumulate points and rewards.

As a result of this new partnership, Socios.com will support the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s Reignite program, which provides adult employment opportunities while fostering healthy lifestyle initiatives within the Club’s local community.

Spurs Joining Others in the Blockchain Sphere

In addition to Tottenham, six other Premier League clubs have entered this domain. With fan tokens surging in popularity in 2021, Manchester City was one of the first to adopt them through a partnership with Socios and the Chiliz blockchain.

Later that same year, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Everton, and Aston Villa collaborated with Socios and Blockchain to launch their own fan tokens. Leeds, which was relegated last season from the Premier League, also offers fan tokens through its partnership with Socios and Chiliz.

The CEO of Chiliz noted that both Chiliz Blockchain and Socios anticipate an increase in users and fan tokens. The Chiliz CEO remarked that;

“We are currently in discussions with over 50 clubs worldwide, some ready to join, while others are still evaluating.”

In addition to Premier League football clubs, various teams from other leagues, including Juventus, Paris Saint Germain, AC Milan, Sevilla, Atletico, FC Barcelona, Galatasaray, and national teams like Argentina and Italy, have also introduced fan tokens.
