Pump.fun Discontinues Livestream Functionality After Incidents of Graphic Material and Violence Threats
The well-known Solana-based meme coin platform, Pump.fun, has indefinitely halted its livestreaming feature on Monday due to a rise in alarming user broadcasts.
The platform, recognized for allowing users to create and promote meme coins, mentioned the necessity for enhanced moderation tools to manage the surge in activity.
“To guarantee the utmost safety of our users, we will be suspending the live streaming functionality on the site for an indefinite duration until the moderation framework is prepared to address the increased levels of activity,” the announcement stated. “We will also offer creators and users improved insight into individual moderation decisions to ensure everyone comprehends the process and outcomes.”
This decision followed a period of growing concerns regarding the nature of the content being streamed.
Pump.fun Addresses Community Concerns Over Live Stream Content
Pump.fun launched the livestream feature in August, initially designed as a playful means for users to share their reactions to token price changes. However, the platform quickly faced a more troubling aspect of the live streams.
Multiple broadcasts showed users partaking in harmful actions, including threats of self-harm and violence if their meme coins did not reach certain market capitalizations.
Hey @pumpdotfun there is currently someone using your livestreams to threaten to hang themselves if the coin does not reach a set marketcap.
Absolutely heinous and It needs to come down + see if you can get them help.

One alarming case involved a token creator threatening to harm their dog if their meme coin did not achieve an $11 million market cap target. Other disturbing reports included a user seemingly pretending to attempt suicide and numerous streams featuring violent and sexually explicit content.
Meme Coin Platform Faces Content Moderation Difficulties
Pump.fun’s founder, @A1lon9 on X (formerly Twitter), responded to the escalating situation on Sunday. He confirmed the removal of the previously mentioned dog-related threat, along with hundreds of other streams identified as violating Pump.fun’s terms of service.
@A1lon9 highlighted the existence of a dedicated team of moderators already working to filter inappropriate content, which encompasses images, videos, livestreams, and comments, while also noting that pornographic material is allowed.
In a prior statement on X, @A1lon9 recognized the challenging balance between maintaining free speech and ensuring user safety.
with the live streaming meta on in full force there have been many people that came forward with some very legitimate concerns regarding what content that is allowed on the platform
let me make it abundantly clear: we actively moderate illicit content on the site. that includes…— alon (@a1lon9) November 22, 2024
The platform’s announcement indicated that the suspension of livestreaming will remain until suitable moderation infrastructure can handle the high volume of activity. It also committed to enhancing transparency regarding moderation decisions to ensure clarity for creators and users.
