Proof of Play CEO Anticipates Increase in Dedicated Blockchain Adoption for Gaming
Proof of Play CEO Amitt Mahajan is expecting a rise in the use of dedicated blockchains for gaming purposes.
Mahajan, who was instrumental in the creation of the well-known Facebook game Farmville, imagines a future where numerous individual blockchains cater to specific applications.
During his tenure at Zynga, Mahajan managed around 64 databases to prevent Farmville from crashing under its large user base.
He perceives blockchain technology as an enhanced database and asserts that utilizing chains as data repositories is crucial for scaling applications, as he mentioned in a recent interview.
Pirate Nation Launches Dedicated Blockchain
Pirate Nation, a cryptocurrency game created by Proof of Play, was initially developed on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon but later transitioned to Arbitrum Nova due to increasing gas fees on Polygon.
However, depending on shared networks presented difficulties, as new projects launching on the same chain could elevate gas fees for all users.
To address this, Pirate Nation introduced its own application-specific chain named Apex, and Mahajan believes this strategy is the rational future for other applications as well.
The Proof of Play Apex chain is now live w/ Pirate Nation!
Pirate Nation is now the first fully on-chain game deployed to its own Mainnet chain.

The movement towards dedicated blockchains for gaming is not exclusive to Pirate Nation.
Other games on platforms like Avalanche are employing their own dedicated subnets, including Shrapnel and Off the Grid with its GUNZ network.
Treasure is also developing its own Arbitrum-based Treasure Chain featuring dedicated gaming networks referred to as “Infinity Chains.”
Since its launch on Apex, Pirate Nation has been actively utilizing the chain for transactions, leading the team to contemplate the addition of more chains to enhance scalability.
Mahajan draws a comparison to his experience in Web2 game development, where scalable architecture was essential to support expanding games.
While managing multiple chains may appear challenging, Mahajan views it as a necessary progression to ensure sustainable growth.
Pirate Nation’s multichain initiative, beginning with Apex, aims to empower other game and dapp developers to establish their own networks using Arbitrum Orbit, an Ethereum scaling solution.
Mahajan recognizes the interest from other developers but plans to resolve capacity challenges before branching out to external projects.
Pirate Nation recently introduced its PIRATE token, which experienced a notable increase in value following its listing on Coinbase.
Meta Aims to Use Generative AI in Metaverse Gaming
Meta is striving to transform metaverse gaming by integrating generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
A recent job posting by Meta indicates the company’s goal to investigate and prototype “entirely new types of gameplay” in the metaverse through the incorporation of generative AI with virtual, augmented, and mixed-reality games.
The company envisions games that are non-deterministic, personalized, and capable of evolving with each play session, crafting experiences that are currently beyond imagination.
Organizations such as Meta, Microsoft, Tencent, and Nvidia are making substantial investments in the metaverse to enhance their platforms and develop new user experiences.
For example, Meta allocated $50 million for global research and development in the metaverse, while Epic Games secured $1 billion, which included a $200 million investment from Sony.
