PayPal has introduced PayPal World, a pioneering global ecosystem that facilitates seamless interoperability among the leading digital wallets and payment systems. Initially, PayPal World will allow mutual integration between PayPal and Venmo, along with the following launch partners:

  • Mercado Pago;
  • NPCI International Payments Limited (UPI);
  • Tenpay Global.

PayPal World aims to provide a solution for international purchases and money transfers, enabling consumers to pay for goods and services and send money overseas using familiar local wallets and national currencies. Users will have the capability to make payments in both offline and online stores, as well as through AI agents, without depending on international payment methods.

For businesses, utilizing PayPal World translates to an expanded customer base without incurring additional integration expenses. Companies will be able to accept payments from nearly two billion users immediately upon connecting to the platform. Support for new wallets and payment systems will be integrated automatically, eliminating the need to update point-of-sale software.

The platform is constructed on open APIs and a cloud-based architecture with multi-layered global deployment, ensuring low latency and high availability. It accommodates interaction with emerging technologies, including dynamic payment buttons and the utilization of .

For the first time, PayPal and Venmo will achieve interoperability. Users will be able to transfer money to one another regardless of the service they utilize. In 2026, Venmo will also gain access to millions of merchants globally where PayPal is already accepted.

Highlighted use cases in the press release include:

  1. Indian UPI users will have the ability to shop in the U.S. via a PayPal button featuring the familiar UPI interface.
  2. PayPal users will be able to make purchases in China by scanning Weixin Pay QR codes.
