PayPal Incorporates Cryptocurrencies into Peer-to-Peer Transactions
Users of PayPal in the United States will soon have the capability to conduct rapid peer-to-peer transactions through PayPal, Venmo, and compatible wallets utilizing BTC, ETH, PYUSD, and various other cryptocurrencies via customized transfer links.
PayPal has revealed the incorporation of digital currencies into its application, alongside the introduction of PayPal Links, which are personalized one-time links for direct transfers.
The incorporation of digital currencies into PayPal’s peer-to-peer service will soon be accessible to users in the U.S. This service will facilitate immediate transfers both within the PayPal ecosystem and externally. Users will have the ability to send BTC, ETH, PYUSD, and other supported tokens directly, without being confined to PayPal or Venmo accounts. This enhanced functionality aims to streamline global payments and connect to billions of digital wallets that support digital assets.
With PayPal Links, users can start a payment by creating a unique link in the PayPal app, which can be distributed via SMS, email, or social media messaging. Each link generated is for single use and remains valid for ten days. If not utilized within that timeframe, it will automatically expire. Funds will be credited immediately to the recipient’s PayPal balance. This feature is currently operational in the U.S. and is set to be introduced in the U.K., Italy, and other nations by the end of September.
Diego Scotti, PayPal’s GM of Consumer Group, highlighted that PayPal Links is intended to make personal payments easier, which, as previously stated, will not be included in 1099-K tax reporting.
As per the company, the volume of P2P transactions in Q2 2025 rose by 10% year-over-year, propelled by the launch of PayPal World, which guarantees seamless interoperability among major digital wallets and payment systems, along with the Pay with Crypto service that allows U.S. businesses of any size to accept cryptocurrencies.
