A survey conducted by the insurance firm Aviva reveals that 11.6 million adults in the U.K. are engaged in cryptocurrency investments, with 14% of these individuals being long-term holders of digital assets.

Aviva’s analysts noted a considerable interest in cryptocurrencies concerning retirement savings. Approximately 27% of participants indicated a willingness to incorporate digital assets into their pension portfolios, while an additional 23% expressed openness to the concept.

Conversely, about 62% of respondents voiced concerns regarding the potential loss of pension benefits if they opt to invest in cryptocurrencies rather than traditional pension options.

Individuals contemplating the use of pension funds for cryptocurrency investments cited the following reasons for their choice:

  • the potential for higher returns (43%);
  • the desire to support innovation and emerging technologies (36%);
  • the aim to diversify their investment portfolio (32%).

Among the primary obstacles hindering the adoption of cryptocurrencies as retirement savings, analysts pointed out:

  • security risk concerns (41%);
  • the absence of regulation and protection for crypto assets (37%);
  • the inherent volatility of cryptocurrencies (30%).

The research also indicates a notably high interest in cryptocurrencies as a retirement investment among individuals aged 25–34. The survey found that approximately 4.3 million young Britons have already withdrawn funds from their pension pots to invest in cryptocurrencies and demonstrate a greater willingness to explore various financial instruments.

Furthermore, around 30% of respondents acknowledged that they simply do not comprehend the long-term advantages of investing in digital assets, while about 27% are unaware of the risks linked to cryptocurrencies.
