In his blog, Vitalik Buterin, Co-Founder of Ethereum, outlined the advantages of the Circle STARK cryptographic protocol, which has been effectively implemented in various blockchain networks, including Polygon and Starkware.

According to Vitalik, the adoption of Circle STARK will greatly enhance the security and efficiency of blockchain protocols. The core principle of this technology is the utilization of smaller fields to accelerate the performance of DLT systems. The Circle STARK protocol can expedite the proof process without jeopardizing the security of the network.

STARK (Scalable Transparent Arguments of Knowledge) is a cryptographic protocol that enables proofs of computation without reliance on a third party. It is employed to generate zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP). STARK is noted for its high performance, , and resilience against quantum threats.

Conventional STARK-based protocols operate with 256-bit fields, which, while secure, can often be inefficient. In contrast, Circle STARK employs smaller fields, leading to reduced computational expenses and improved proof rates. Vitalik stated that this method enhances the efficiency of processes within blockchain networks.

Buterin also pointed out that traditionally, fields have a restricted number of potential values and can be vulnerable to brute force attacks. The smaller fields in Circle STARK conduct multiple random checks and make use of extension fields, thereby expanding the range of values that attackers must attempt to guess.

Vitalik commended the future potential of this technology, highlighting that Circle STARK provides greater flexibility and adaptability in blockchain development, establishing a foundation for improving the efficiency of computational processes.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently mentioned that the blockchain network of the largest altcoin may be susceptible to quantum technologies and requires protection against them.
