The CEO of Metaplanet, a prominent corporate holder of Bitcoin, Simon Gerovich, has denied allegations that the company secretly acquired Bitcoin.
He stated that Metaplanet has consistently disclosed information regarding all cryptocurrency purchases to investors, asserting that critics misinterpret the financial reports and the nature of the transactions.
The criticism directed at the company emerged on social media and among market commentators, who speculated that Metaplanet might have bought Bitcoin during price peaks without timely disclosures. Some users also questioned the transparency of the reports, pointing to the use of borrowed funds and derivative instruments.
“Metaplanet made only four Bitcoin purchases in September 2025 and promptly announced each one. The company did not secretly acquire BTC at a local peak without disclosure,” he stated.
Gerovich further mentioned that in October 2025, the company opened a credit line, and in November and December, it disclosed all details regarding subsequent borrowings, including amounts, collateral, and balances.
According to him, the financing terms were favorable for the company, and its financial condition remained stable despite the decline in Bitcoin’s price. He added that “anonymous individuals” should focus on learning the basics of accounting and not mislead investors.
Previously, Metaplanet reported an annual unrealized loss of 102.2 billion yen (approximately $664 million). The company clarified that this was related to the revaluation of its held Bitcoins and was less than what the firm had anticipated.
