Messari’s CEO Ryan Selkis will resign from his position at the cryptocurrency research firm following provocative comments he made online about immigration and Donald Trump, the crypto entrepreneur announced late Friday morning.

Messari CEO Ryan Selkis Resigns, Critiques Anti-Trump Sentiment

“I’ve made the decision to step down from my role as operating CEO at Messari and transition to the position of Senior Advisor,” Selkis stated. “This was not a decision I made lightly, and I was very close to making this choice last month as I reflected on the issues I am most passionate about addressing in society.”

The Chief Revenue Officer of the crypto research firm, Eric Turn, will assume Selkis’ role.

Selkis’ departure follows his posting of several troubling comments directed at those who oppose Republican nominee Donald Trump shortly after an assassination attempt during a campaign rally on Saturday, July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“Anyone who votes against Donald Trump at this point can die in a f—ing fire. Literal war,” he expressed in a July 13 post on X.

In another post on the same day, the digital asset entrepreneur claimed that “the civil war for the country” had commenced.

“If you are anti-Trump, you are against the individuals who are willing to fight,” he stated. “Good luck.”

In a separate post, he responded to a person who had immigrated to the United States, stating they “are not entitled to citizenship” and expressed a desire for the country to “send” them “back,” which ignited public backlash.

Selkis “Ran Too Hot” In X Posts

On Thursday, Selkis publicly apologized for his actions, admitting that he “ran too hot” while expressing his political views online after discussions with Messari leadership.

“On a personal level, I was horrified by the attempted assassination of President Trump this past Saturday and have been appalled by the media and administration’s complete failures in seeking answers in the aftermath of the attack, as well as their inability to mitigate the divisive rhetoric that contributed to the attack initially,” Selkis remarked. “I will focus all my efforts on addressing the root issues that have resulted in these systemic challenges within our institutions.”

Selkis has been actively involved in conservative politics and has previously opposed what some in the crypto community perceive as executive overreach by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) concerning its regulation-by-enforcement strategy regarding digital assets.

However, it remains uncertain what additional repercussions the crypto entrepreneur may face for his controversial remarks.
