Base Chain Emerging as a Hub for Meme Coins

Base has garnered increasing attention since its inception and may be on track to outpace Solana. This could prove advantageous for the coins it supports.

Several factors could contribute to this potential outcome. Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 blockchain anticipates significant ecosystem advancements, alongside noteworthy on-chain metrics.

Key developments include the Base Chain Smart Wallet and a smart contract named ‘Magic Spend.’

Regarding on-chain metrics, Base’s 24-hour trading volume is reported at $125.47 million today, according to DeFiLlama.

At the start of this year, that figure was merely 21.63 million.

Additionally, its total value locked (TVL) is currently $1.508 billion, approaching its all-time high of $1.65 billion.

At the beginning of the year, the TVL was $437 million, reflecting a substantial 245% increase over four months.

In comparison, Solana has a TVL of $4.02 billion, up from $1.4 billion at the start of the year, marking a 187% increase.

Its current 24-hour volume is $598.93 million, compared to $545.88 on January 1.

In addition to discussions about Base potentially overtaking Solana, there are also conversations regarding which chain operates at a faster speed.

Base is slower than Solana:

5x slower block times and 10-60x less TPS (depending on demand)

Its largest block yesterday had over 94% failure rates (even higher than Solana)

BONK Introduces Email Login and Launches E-cards

The meme coin BONK announced several updates this week.

On Wednesday, the project’s teams disclosed their collaboration with TipLink, a streamlined wallet aimed at simplifying the transfer of digital assets as easily as sending a link.

BONK stated that users can now log in using only their email on BONKrewards and secure their coins.

Currently, over 3.28 trillion BONK are locked there.

According to TipLink’s documentation, a crypto user can create a TipLink and share that link with anyone across various platforms, including text, Discord, email, or others.

“The remarkable aspect is that the link serves as the wallet,” it stated.

TopLinks can store SOL, SPL tokens (tokens functioning on the Solana blockchain), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and semi-fungible tokens (SFTs).

Thus, TipLink provides decentralization and self-custody without the need for seed phrases, key management, applications, or browser extensions, as noted by the project.

On Saturday, BONK announced the launch of BONKmark E-cards in anticipation of Mother’s Day.

This initiative, made possible through the partnership with TipLink, enables users to send BONK using only an email address, allowing “moms worldwide to utilize their BONK.”
