For the 2024/25 season, Manchester United has introduced Player Trading Cards featuring all first-team players from the men’s squad, including recent signings Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.

These cards are available in Classic, Rare, and Ultra-Rare editions, are hand-drawn, and feature real-time statistics.

Fans can utilize these cards to form five-man teams for the Fantasy United game, where they compete in mini-leagues and accumulate points based on the actual performances of Manchester United players, including goals, assists, tackles, and saves.

Throughout the season, fans will receive updates on the most popular players and the strategies used by United legends and fantasy football specialists.

Moreover, fans can compete directly against former United players in the Legends leagues, adding an additional layer of excitement.

Early access to Player Trading Cards was provided to Devil-holders, owners of the club’s original digital collection, on Monday, while all other fans can now start collecting as of today (July 31).

Through its digital efforts, Manchester United has fostered a growing community of nearly 100,000 members in their Discord channel, where fans can engage, learn about new releases, and participate in live town halls and Q&As with the club.

The partnership between Manchester United and the Tezos Blockchain has significantly improved fan interaction and engagement, establishing a new benchmark in contemporary football fandom.

According to their website, the game will commence with Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Fulham on August 16.

Manchester United’s Collaboration with Tezos Blockchain and Community Impact

The collaboration between Manchester United and the Tezos Blockchain has proven to be highly effective. It began with the introduction of ‘The Devils,’ the club’s original digital collection, in 2022, which featured 7,777 unique characters inspired by the history of United.

Due to a strong demand for digital collectibles, these were quickly acquired within a few days.

Sunil Singhvi, Head of Culture at Trilitech, Tezos R&D Hub, remarked that this new initiative allows fans to forge a deeper connection with their beloved club. Sunil stated,

“Through dynamically updating collectibles, supporters will be able to cheer on their heroes and watch how the season develops.”

Manchester United’s entry into the Web3 domain with Fantasy United is part of a larger trend among football clubs adopting blockchain technology to connect with fans.

For instance, Manchester City recently announced a partnership with Quidd to launch a series of Manchester City-themed NFT trading cards. This collaboration aims to provide fans with unique digital memorabilia that includes special benefits such as merchandise, hospitality tickets, and exclusive experiences.

This initiative is also part of Manchester City’s broader strategy to engage with the NFT and Web3 sectors, building on previous successful endeavors. The club has introduced various NFT collections, including commemorative items and collaborations with companies like OKX and Sony.

During last season, fans were able to claim free hand-drawn digital collectibles at all men’s and women’s home matches, resulting in over 750,000 claims.

Similarly, Quidd’s partnership with Manchester City marks its second collaboration with a professional football team, following a similar agreement with Newcastle United.
